Who Can Benefit From This Program?

1. Articulation-Impaired Students in Grades Two Through Six: The Vocabulary Picture Worksheets along with their corresponding Quick Speech Worksheets provide excellent drill.

2. Students with Delayed Vocabulary Skills: The wide variety of Vocabulary Picture Worksheets provided will help students learn and use new vocabulary words. When the Vocabulary Picture Worksheets are paired with the Following Directions Concept Lessons, the students receive abundant and appropriate practice to improve their vocabulary.

3. Students Who Are Experiencing Difficulty Following Directions Because of Poor Auditory Memory or Attending Skills: Typically, these are the students who daydream, misunderstand classroom directions, or misinterpret instructions for task completion. The Following Directions Concept Lessons can be paired with any of the Vocabulary Picture Worksheets to practice listening to and following directions. The goal is to decrease the number of times a direction has to be repeated while improving the students' ability to focus on verbal requests or directions.

4. Developmentally Delayed Students in Middle School and Beyond: As these students practice the Following Directions Concept Lessons paired with a variety of the Vocabulary Picture Worksheets, they will increase their ability to understand and follow verbal directions. This will be an invaluable life skill for these students as they start working on their vocational goals which include learning to take directions from future employers.

What Is Included In This Program?

1. Concept Assessment Pre-Test/Post-Test for Data Collection: Includes a 50-item following directions (i.e., naming, above, below, at the end of, at the beginning of, etc.) test. The first 25 items are relatively easy for students in the second or third grades; the remaining 25 items get progressively harder and are more appropriate for older students.

2. Vocabulary Picture Worksheets: In each book there are over 100 worksheets that are divided into initial, medial, and final positions of words as well as consonant blends. There are also several review worksheets that encompass different sound positions for carry-over practice.

3. Quick Speech Worksheets: There are corresponding pages of practice drills for each Vocabulary Picture Worksheet. Each page includes three columns of 3-word phrases and two columns of 4-word phrases. The students can repeat one or two columns of phrases while looking at his or her Vocabulary Picture Worksheet for a five-minute daily practice in the classroom or therapy setting.

4. "Following Directions" Concept Lessons: The forty lessons in this section can be used in individual therapy or with groups. Each lesson takes approximately 10-15 minutes to present. The students can use their own individual Vocabulary Picture Worksheets to participate in the lessons which means that different sounds can be practiced within a group setting. The lessons require the students to listen to a concept instruction and follow it by naming the correct picture or pictures. Even though the students are actually drilling their speech sounds over and over, they are also being asked to locate and name different pictures and follow a variety of directions.

5. Games and Activities: There are 48 different games and activities that can be played with any of the Vocabulary Picture Worksheets. It requires very little preparation to play these games in an individual or group setting. The games and activities are simple, engaging, often competitive, and a fun way to drill speech sounds to improve articulation skills. Students that need to practice different sounds can still be paired together while playing these games.

6. Homework Activities: There are 25 different activities that can be sent home with any Vocabulary Picture Worksheet. The instructions are clear and the activities are not time-consuming and can be easily practiced for a few minutes each day.

Making Progress
Tongue twisters are a great tool for helping students progress from the simple sentence level of their articulation program to more demanding speech activities such as storytelling, reading, and conversations. Mastering tongue twisters gives the students confidence in their ability to use their language activities as they work to achieve mastery and carry-over of their target phonemes.

Quick Speech

It only takes a few minutes of your time in the therapy room or outside your students' classrooms for a quick daily lesson to have them repeat one of the tongue twisters ten times. Also, children love to keep track of the number of times the tongue twister is repeated correctly by crossing out the small pictures above each tongue twister.

Homework

Tongue twisters make terrific homework. Saying each tongue twister ten times daily provides home practice that is effective, but not too time-consuming or complex for parents or caregivers.

Reading

An additional but parallel bonus of using
tongue twisters is the fun reading practice that any student may benefit from. The tongue twisters provide drill and memory practice in delightful ways for children. You may even want to tell reading specialists about this great resource for their students as well.

What Are Story Builders?

Story Builders are a series of eight individual sentences that culminate in a complex /R/ sound loaded story.
Each of the eight sentences in a particular story can stand on its own; however, when combined, these individual sentences add layer upon layer of meaning until the final sentence in the series completes the story.
The stories are colorful, funny, sometimes absurd, and always delightful for children. Students don’t mind repeating these sentences over and over again.

Articulation AND Language
These Story Builders are an excellent activity for those articulation students who are at the sentence stage of their speech program and are ready to progress to reading and storytelling while using their good /R/ sound. This program is also a bridge and a little nudge for those articulation students who are about to enter the conversation level of therapy. Story Builders aren't just for articulation students! They are excellent activities for any of your students working on their general language and reading comprehension skills.

Lesson Plans Included
At the end of each individual story is a 20-item teacher lesson plan. These lesson plans add a significant amount of practice drill that is also engaging and fun for the student. Each lesson plan asks 10 questions about the story and includes an additional 10 items that require the students to repeat sentences, describe pictures, follow concept directions, and re-tell the story from memory.

Great for Homework or Mini-Lessons
These Story Builders are easy to use, require little preparation, can be completed in 10-15 minutes, and are great for individual or group therapy sessions. They are also easy and appropriate materials to send home for your students and their caregivers to practice together.

Complete Course Curriculum

There are many products on the market for school speech therapists, but few of them offer a total program for remediating specific speech and language difficulties.

Do you find yourself borrowing a few pages here and there from multiple sources or even trying to create your own worksheets? Do you have a library full of books where only a small portion of the content is useful? Do you spend too much time gathering appropriate curriculum that best suits the needs of your students? Our manuals solve that problem!

Each workbook in the series provides a complete course curriculum for the commonly misarticulated vowel+/R/ sounds
and includes approximately four months of material for weekly therapy sessions.

What to Expect from Every Workbook
Each 90-page workbook in The Complete Vowel+/R/ Series follows a consistent format. Students begin with simple word repetitions of a core vocabulary and progress through increasingly complicated vocabulary and language drills encompassing phrases, short sentences, complex sentences, question and answer drills, tongue twisters, simple stories, and longer rebus stories. Progress is measured by the pre and post tests that can be administered at any time during your therapy program.

Challenging and Engaging Activities
Many commercial programs currently on the market require few responses for each page of material. This wastes valuable
therapy time, provides insufficient drill, and prolongs the need for future speech therapy. Our You Can Teach Speech Now materials not only provide multiple speaking opportunities, they require students to use thinking skills by incorporating their speech sounds in complex language activities. The full color illustrations and activities are so engaging that the students will stay focused and willingly participate during the entire therapy session.

Convenience
Directions for each activity are simple and clearly stated on every page. This reduces the time required to prepare a full lesson. And once a student has been adequately trained to produce the error sound in the therapy setting, these materials can be sent home and easily practiced with a parent.
